DAVIS, Owen Marchant

Back in Japan

Early April

And I’m back

In Japan.

Sunday morning

On a quiet street.

One moment at a time,

The blossoms fall.

A little girl in red

Waits on the white pavement.

Her eyes bright with expectancy.

Through black branches,

Here it comes.

The merriest cherry-blossom ever

To fall.

She dashes for it,

Arms outstretched,

Hands cupped.

And misses!

And misses two more.

Oh, how I wish you were here

To watch her fail so joyfully.
