GOSSE, Edmund

The Charcoal Burner

There is a poem, seldom read,
the author being long since dead,
a charcoal burner spent his days,
un- worldly, wise to natures ways.

He lived within a wooded glade,
in natures bosom, plied his trade,
the forest law became his teacher,
he studied every woodland creature.

Though none would fear him for they knew,
his gentle heart was kind and true,
the seasons passed, he came to see,
how God in nature came to be.

This solitary gentle soul,
within Gods plan had found his role,
and as the years rolled gently on,
within the many found the one.
