DE ABREU, Casimiro

Meus Oito Anos

Oh ! que saudades que eu tenho

Da aurora da minha vida,

Da minha infância querida

Que os anos não trazem mais !

Que amor, que sonhos, que flores,

Naquelas tardes fagueiras

À sombra das bananeiras,

ebaixo dos laranjais !

Como são belos os dias

Do despontar da existência !

– Respira a alma inocência

Como perfumes a flor;

O mar é – lago sereno,

O céu – um manto azulado,

O mundo – um sonho dourado,

A vida – um hino d’amor !

Que auroras, que sol, que vida,

Que noites de melodia

Naquela doce alegria,

Naquele ingênuo folgar !

O céu bordado d’estrelas,

A terra de aromas cheia,

As ondas beijando a areia

E a lua beijando o mar !

Oh ! dias de minha infância !

Oh ! meu céu de primavera !

Que doce a vida não era

Nessa risonha manhã !

Em vez de mágoas de agora,

Eu tinha nessas delícias

De minha mãe as carícias

E beijos de minha irmã !

Livre filho das montanhas,

Eu ia bem satisfeito,

De camisa aberta ao peito,

– Pés descalços, braços nus –

Correndo pelas campinas

À roda das cachoeiras,

Atrás das asas ligeiras

Das borboletas azuis !

Naqueles tempos ditosos

Ia colher as pitangas,

Trepava a tirar as mangas,

Brincava à beira do mar;

Rezava às Ave-Marias,

Achava o céu sempre lindo,

Adormecia sorrindo,

E despertava a cantar !

Oh ! que saudades que eu tenho

Da aurora da minha vida
…..

My eight years old

Oh! I have missed you

From the dawn of my life,

From my childhood sweetheart

That the years bring no more!

What love, what dreams, what flowers,

On those afternoons fully satisfying

In the shade of banana trees

Under the orange!

How beautiful are the days

From the dawn of existence!

- Breathe the soul innocence

As the flower perfumes;

The sea is - serene lake,

The sky - a blue mantle,

The world - a golden dream,

Life - a hymn d'amor!

What auroras, that sun, life,

That evening of melody

That sweet joy,

That naive play!

The sky d'embroidered stars,

The land full of aromas,

The waves kissing the sand

And the moon kissing the sea!

Oh! days of my childhood!

Oh! My spring sky!

How sweet life was not

This morning smiling.

Instead of hurts now,

I had such delights

My mother's caresses

And kissing my sister!

Free child of the mountains,

I was well satisfied,

Shirt open at the chest,

- Bare feet, bare arms -

Running through the fields

In the wheel of waterfalls,

Behind the light wings

Blue butterflies!

Those fortunate times

Would harvest the cherries,

Climbed to take the sleeves,

Played by the sea;

He prayed the Hail Mary,

I thought the sky always beautiful,

fell asleep smiling

And awoke to sing!

Oh! What I have missed

From the dawn of my life
…..
